SCOTTISH EXPERIMENTAL DUPLEX CANCELLATIONS

PAISLEY

Paisley had the one basic Type for some two years until June 1858 and then strangely reintroduced it for a very short period of time in 1860/1 after having dispensed with the inner arc

Type 1

Characteristics: The ‘normal’ experimental design with four short bars each side of ‘277’. In every example I have seen there is a break in the top bar (see Gallery for examples) albeit this is not evident in the Proof. Examples have been seen in a green and a blue shade during the  latter part of 1857 although this is not always easy to be sure that the colour has not leached from the cover.

Proofed: 8th April 1856

EKD: 28th May 1856 (SPG state having seen 16th April 1856)

LKD: 8th June 1858

Months of Use;

Type 2

Characteristics: This is Type 1 with the inner arc taken away (similar to Aberdeen Type 3). It will be seen that the break in the top bar remains.

Proofed: 9th May 1860

EKD: 24th December 1860

LKD: 10th June 1861

Months of Use/Codes: I have only seen two examples dated 24th December 1860 (Codes D and InvC) and one dated 10th June 1861 (no Code)

Scarcity Rating: H (Very Few Recorded)
