ROLLER (REVOLVER) CANCELLATIONS
Four different Roller Types were proofed for Edinburgh although the first two Types have not been recorded used. Type 3 had many recuts/repairs and is the most common of all Roller cancellations and was used extensively on envelopes with a single postage stamp.
Type 1
Characteristics: A series of marks similar to the Scottish 1844 postmarks for Edinburgh but arranged vertically and not joined apart from with spacing bars

Characteristics: A continuous series of lines containing the 131 of Edinburgh

Type 3
Characteristics: A continuous series of marks similar to the Scottish 1844 postmark for Edinburgh.
Proofed: Initially circa January 1856 with many recuts thereafter. (At a later time I will endeavour to see if there differences between the various recuts and if so show them accordingly)

LKD: 19th June 1880
Scarcity Rating: C (average) although dated copies on more than one postage stamp are not common

Proofed: The first entry in the Proof Book is circa March 1856 but it must have been proofed earlier; see the EKD
